Beneficiaries

Philanthropic Foodies is proud to honor those in our community who are doing exceptional work, often times unnoticed.

Friends of Dorothy is our initiative to be supportive of people with AIDS. Since October of 1992 we have offered home-based care to people with AIDS in a variety of ways, including recuperative or hospice care, supportive housing and emergency assistance.

Our primary focus has been on hospice care. We have an informal relationship with Hospice of CNY. Our guest becomes their client, with Hospice providing medical care and nurse visits. We are primary care givers, much like extended family members.

While we try to offer hospitality to one hospice patient at a time, we sometimes are able to take in two at once. We try to remain flexible, and meet the needs of each of our guests to the best of our ability.

Joseph's House provides a safe home for pregnant, homeless women and their children. The physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of the mother and her baby are cared for through the loving support of staff members and volunteers in a nurturing family home environment. Joseph’s House provides life skills classes and access to educational, occupational, and spiritual resources informed by the Catholic tradition.

Over the last 5 years, more than 85 women have found refuge at Joseph’s House and more than 50 newborn babies call Joseph’s House their first home. The residents can live at Joseph’s House for up to two years and continuing support is provided through their Exodus program as the women transition to independent living.
